Elijah Churchill's P U B L I C H O U S E © Sgt. Elijah Churchill was the first recipient of the Purple Heart Medal in American History. This honor was bestowed upon him by General George Washington on May 3rd, 1783. He was recognized for the bravery he exhibited defending our country at the battle of Fort Slongo (Salonga) during the Revolutionary War.
